Gabriela 'Gabi' Alcazar

Environmental Justice Organizer

Gabriela Alcazar is an Environmental Justice Organizer with the Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition. She entered into environmental justice organizing as an intern at the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization in Chicago, IL in 2007 assisting with the clean air campaigns producing bilingual educational materials for parents in schools and the youth leadership program. In 2011 she moved to Southwest Detroit and became the Community Advocacy Program coordinator at the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation assisting with multiple community-based participatory research projects around air pollution and asthma rates in the community. She was a part of MEJC’s first Clean Air Council first cohort in 2018 and became an MEJC member in 2019. She’s also been involved in various campaigns for immigrant rights since 2006. Last year, she organized with the Black Brown Alliance of the Metro Detroit DSA as the co-chair. For the last 10 years, Gabriela has been working in the early childhood education field supporting parents in Southwest Detroit as advocates for their children and their community. She’s passionate about building community power in creative ways to continue the fight towards building a just future for all.
