Pavan Vangipuram

Pavan Vangipuram (he/him) comes to MEJC after almost a decade in nonprofit and government spaces, particularly focused around immigration, education and environmental advocacy. Prior to joining MEJC, Pavan was a Communications Manager for the City of Detroit, managing the city's social media platforms.

Before that, he assisted the communications efforts of the National Wildlife Federation's Great Lakes Office and OneAmerica, Washington State's largest immigrant rights advocacy group, based in Seattle, among a variety of other roles.

For the Michigan Department of Education, he served on the Social Studies Taskforce's Bias Review Committee, where he and a team reviewed K-12 grade-level standards to eliminate instances of bias.

He is interested in the manifold ways by which racism shows itself in the structures that affect our lives - often without our knowing - particularly in the realm of environmental policy.
