Today, a right-wing supermajority of Supreme Court justices – half of whom were appointed by a president who failed to win the popular vote – upended our constitutional right to safe and legal abortion. It’s a move that will bring our communities to new pain, struggle, grief, and resistance.
This ruling does not end abortion. Wherever we live, whatever our income – we will continue to make the best reproductive health decisions for ourselves and our families. Instead, the ruling is an attack on people who can become pregnant, and on gender equality. It targets low-income communities and communities of color, who will be most at risk of unsafe abortions and criminalization by extremist laws. The verdict is a gift to corporate, right-wing interests who benefit from diminishing our communities’ agency and wellbeing.
It’s the same corporate interests who profit from polluting in Black, Indigenous, and low-income communities. The same corporate interests who want to privatize our schools, raid our public funds, and attack our right to vote.
Together we will support one another and advocate for safe, legal abortion, forever. We call on Congress and the President to stand with the majority of Americans and codify safe, legal abortion NOW.
