Andrea Pierce

Policy Director

Andrea Pierce (she/her, we/us) is a Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB) citizen. Newly employed by MEJC, she is so excited to join such an impactful coalition of people and orgs.

Andrea has been the lead organizer of Idle No More Michigan, an Indigenous Grassroots Movement, where she seriously began her fight for Native Rights and to SHUT DOWN LINE 5/NO TUNNEL. Andrea started as an in-the-streets activist where she partnered with Detroit Light Brigade and helped to create the Ann Arbor Light Brigade. She has organized many protests and rallies to SHUT DOWN LINE 5/NO TUNNEL across Michigan. She was a co-organizer of the Pipe Out Paddle Up Flotilla for 5 years.

She is the Chair and co-founder of the Anishinaabek Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party (MDP). The first & only caucus in Michigan that represents the Native American people and the issues that the Anishinaabek face. The caucus would love to support Native American candidates that support traditional and cultural values of our people in their respective races. She is Precinct Delegate in Ypsilanti Michigan, where she lives and was elected to the State Central Committee of the MDP. She was also elected as a DNC Bernie Delegate in the 2020 elections.

She is one of four citizens that discovered a 10 thousand year old Cultural Sacred Site at the Straits of Mackinac, in an effort to bring awareness to the ticking timebomb that is Line 5.

In 2022, Andrea was awarded Clean Water Action's Great Lakes Advocate of the Year.

Andrea is focused on protecting tribal lands and tribal treaty rights by shutting down line 5 and stopping the Enbridge tunnel from being built. Andrea is a Grandmother, Mother, Sister, Auntie, Cousin to many wonderful people as her circle keeps growing with love and activism.
