Kathryn Savoie

Board Member

Kathryn Savoie (she/her) is veteran community organizer and has led a number of major health, human rights and environmental justice campaigns in the Detroit area over more than 30 years.

Kathryn has worked as Executive Director of the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights, which she represented at the 1991 People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit. She served for 14 years as Environmental Program Director at the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS), where she worked with community leaders on environmental justice and public health programs, and successful community campaigns against major auto and steel polluters in Southwest Detroit and South Dearborn.

Kathryn currently serves as the Director of Equity & Environmental Justice at the Ecology Center, working to advance environmental health and justice, with a focus on clean air, clean energy and climate justice. She played a leadership role in the Breathe Free Detroit campaign to shut down the Detroit Incinerator.
Kathryn is a founding member of Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice and an active member in the Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition. She is a presenter and mentor with the Climate Reality Project, trained by former Vice President Al Gore in September 2006.
